USMID Moroto Road Project

Project Overview:

The USMID Moroto Road Project involved consultancy services and supervision of construction works for selected infrastructure subprojects in Cluster II, Moroto Municipal Council. This included the upgrading of two roads (0.738 km) to an asphalt concrete surface, along with associated ancillary works, such as the installation of solar street lights, within Moroto Municipality. Funded by the World Bank, the project aimed to enhance urban infrastructure and improve public services in the region.

Project Details:

The streetlights were installed as part of the USMID program, which was funded by the World Bank-IDA. This program aimed to enhance the institutional performance of 14 Municipal Councils to improve urban service delivery.

Technical Specifications:

Each solar streetlight featured batteries with a lifespan of up to five years and panels designed to last 25 years. These specifications ensured long-term reliability and effectiveness of the lighting system.

Community Impact:

The installation of these solar streetlights had a significant impact on the safety and security of Moroto Municipality. According to Angela Namoe, the lights were expected to deter criminal activities by eliminating the darkness that had previously been exploited by criminals.
