Project Overview:
The Moroto Solar Street Lights Installation Project involved the successful deployment of 320 solar streetlights across twelve roads within Moroto Municipality. This initiative, valued at over Ugx 3 billion, was financed with support from the World Bank under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) Program.
Project Details:
The streetlights were installed as part of the USMID program, which was funded by the World Bank-IDA through a USD 150 million loan. This program, which ran from 2013 to 2018, aimed to enhance the institutional performance of 14 Municipal Councils to improve urban service delivery.
Technical Specifications:
Each solar streetlight featured batteries with a lifespan of up to five years and panels designed to last 25 years. These specifications ensured long-term reliability and effectiveness of the lighting system.
Community Impact:
The installation of these solar streetlights had a significant impact on the safety and security of Moroto Municipality. According to Angela Namoe, the lights were expected to deter criminal activities by eliminating the darkness that had previously been exploited by criminals. This positive change was anticipated to contribute positively to community safety and overall quality of life.
Strategic Importance:
By enhancing public lighting, the project supported the broader goals of the USMID program, which sought to improve urban infrastructure across the participating local governments, including Moroto. The project contributed to the program’s objective which was to boost local governance and infrastructure development.
Timeline and Progress:
The Moroto Solar Street Lights Installation Project was completed as planned, with all 320 lights successfully installed on the designated roads. Regular updates were provided to stakeholders and the community to keep them informed about the project’s progress and achievements.
Our Commitment:
Our team was dedicated to delivering the project with the highest standards of quality and efficiency. We ensured that the installation met all technical specifications and contributed effectively to the improvement of public safety and urban infrastructure in Moroto Municipality.
